In an environment of increasing compliance it is far easier to set up systems which deal with day to day compliance activities virtually automatically. This is not limited to accounts and includes the operational systems in your business. When something is a matter of routine, you do not need to spend time on repetitious issues and can instead concentrate on developing your business.
In addition to systems improving the efficiency of your business, being able to show your customers that you have a well organized business can help win orders and contribute to your growth. A sound investment in good systems, tailored to your business, pays for itself many times over.
Accounting systems and software
We work with all the mainstream accounting programs, such as QuickBooks, Sage, Exchequer and MYOB. There are many accounts programs available at widely differing prices. Entry level software at under £200 can prove powerful and provide detailed financial reports to enable you to run your business efficiently. However, it cannot cope with a system designed to deal with multi locations, stock control, unlimited data size, multiple currencies and other features, which would start at around £25,000 and would be more appropriate to a larger or fast growing company.
Whichever software you use, or if you intend to upgrade, it is vitally important to design the system in a manner which is appropriate to your company. Many companies use standard layouts for their accounts, which rarely enable them to maximise the benefit of their financial information in order to manage their business effectively. We are expert in designing and setting up accounting systems, which is an extension of our experience in designing corporate operating systems and structures.
Internal procedures
Systems are not restricted to financial systems – control of your customers and suppliers, designing and using databases and related training are all critical. The day to day running of your business depends upon routines, responsible roles and defined lines of reporting, including:
- Company or group structure
- Organisation chart
- Reporting responsibilities
- Internal procedures (leading to or part of ISO 9000 accreditation)
- Staff appraisal procedures
- Manual of authorities
- Health and safety
We have extensive experience of addressing these issues and writing the relevant documentation. Our work often uncovers inefficiencies in the day to day operations of some businesses and if all of these procedures are not in place, companies normally see an immediate benefit as a result of our work.
